How to Disable Call Forwarding – Get Your Calls Back to You

Date:

So okay. Call forwarding is useful yeah, like when you’re busy or out of network and want someone else (like your office or another number) to get your calls. But sometimes you forget it’s on. Or maybe you didn’t even turn it on and it’s just happening by itself (yes, it happens sometimes and freaks people out ).

So if you’re getting tired of missing calls or ppl saying “why u not answering?” but your phone never rang… maybe call forwarding is on. Time to turn it off.

In this post I’ll tell you how to disable call forwarding on different phones – Android, iPhone, through codes, from settings, everything. Even on landline (if u still use that lol).

What Is Call Forwarding? (Just in case u forgot)

Call forwarding is a service where your incoming calls are sent to another number. Like, instead of your phone ringing, the call goes to another number. You can forward all calls or just when ur busy, unreachable, or don’t pick up.

But sometimes you turn it on and forget. Or someone does it for fun (rare but happened with my cousin once). Or you used it for work but now don’t need it. So let’s just disable it now.

Method 1: Disable Call Forwarding Using Dial Codes

This is honestly the fastest way. You don’t need internet, or settings menu. Just dial a code and boom, forwarding gone.

Here’s the list of the codes:

  • To disable all call forwarding
    Dial ##002# and press call.
This cancels all kinds of call forwarding. Like busy, no answer, no network, everything.

  • Disable call forwarding when busy
    Dial ##67# and call

  • Disable when not answering
    Dial ##61#

  • Disable when out of reach / switched off
    Dial ##62#

After dialing, you’ll see a message like “Erasure successful” or “Call forwarding deactivated”. Done.

These codes work on most GSM networks (like Jio, Airtel, Vi, etc). For BSNL or some CDMA ones, might not work the same.

Method 2: Turn Off Call Forwarding on Android

Android phones have different settings depending on brand (Samsung, Xiaomi, etc) but most of them are kinda similar.

Here’s how to do it:

  1. Open Phone app (like the one where you dial numbers)

  2. Tap on the three dots (⋮) or “More” or “Settings”

  3. Go to Calls > Call Settings

  4. Tap on Call forwarding

  5. You’ll see options like:

    • Always forward

    • When busy

    • When unanswered

    • When unreachable

  6. Tap on each one and if it says it’s forwarding to a number, select it and choose Turn off or Disable

Do this for each type just to be sure.

If you don’t see call forwarding settings, maybe your phone doesn’t support it directly and you’ll have to use dial codes (see method 1).

Method 3: iPhone – Disable Call Forwarding on iOS

On iPhone it’s also not that hard. Just a bit hidden.

  1. Go to Settings

  2. Scroll down and tap on Phone

  3. Tap on Call Forwarding

  4. If the toggle is ON, turn it OFF

That’s it. If the toggle was already off, then forwarding is probably not active. But if ur still not getting calls, use the code ##002# to make 100% sure.

Some carriers don’t show the Call Forwarding option unless it’s supported by network. So don’t panic if you can’t find it.

Method 4: Disable via Carrier App or Website

A lot of mobile networks now have apps – like:

  • MyJio for Jio

  • Airtel Thanks for Airtel

  • Vi App for Vodafone-Idea

  • BSNL Selfcare for BSNL

You can open the app, log in, go to services/settings and turn off call forwarding from there. Not every app has this but some do.

Alternatively, call customer care and ask them to disable it. Yeah it’s old school but it works if you’re confused with all this.

Method 5: For Landline Phones ☎️

If you’re using a landline (maybe for office or home), call forwarding is also there. But to cancel it:

  • Dial #21# to cancel all calls forwarding

  • Or try ##002# on some digital phones

For BSNL landline, try calling customer support or check their portal.

How To Check If Call Forwarding Is Active?

Good question! Here’s how:

  • Dial *#21# → It shows if your calls are being forwarded always

  • Dial *#61#, *#62#, or *#67# → shows call forwarding for other conditions

It’ll show the number where calls are going (if any). If it says “not forwarded” or “disabled”, you’re good.

Why Calls Still Going Somewhere Else Even After Turning Off?

If you tried everything and calls still not coming to you, maybe:

  • Network glitch. Try restarting your phone.

  • SIM issue. Try putting SIM in another phone and test.

  • Someone forwarded your calls without telling (rare but possible)

  • Carrier settings messed up – call customer support and ask for reset.

Extra Tips ️

  • After turning off call forwarding, try calling your number from another phone to check if it’s working.

  • If you use dual SIM, make sure you check settings for the right SIM slot.

  • In case you get error like “Invalid MMI code” when dialing ##002# – try turning off WiFi calling or rebooting your phone and try again.

  • You can also enable/disable call forwarding manually whenever you want. Just don’t forget to turn it off later

Conclusion

Okay so that’s pretty much all about disabling call forwarding. Whether you turned it on by mistake, or it got activated automatically, or someone messed with your phone – it’s not a big deal. You can easily turn it off with a simple code or through settings.

If you’re still having trouble, just call your mobile operator and ask them to remove all forwarding. Better safe than sorry, right?

So now your calls will come straight to you. No more “why didn’t you answer” when your phone didn’t even ring.

Hope this helped. Now go check your phone and dial ##002# just to be sure
